Programming an Auberin SYL-2352
Programming an Auberin SYL-2352
I have just built a HERMS rig and am having a little issue with programming the blasted thing. I believe I have it programmed correctly but when doing a test run today it failed to heat the HERMS pot. Wiring looks OK but I am not so sure about the basic setup of the PID. Is there anyone out there using one who could possibly give me an idea of their basic settings. Cheers in advance.

What happened when it "failed"? Did it drive the element at all?Bogbrewer wrote:I have just built a HERMS rig and am having a little issue with programming the blasted thing. I had a bit of back and forth with Kane at Auber last year, and he supplied me with some PID parameters that I have used successfully ever since:
I =350, P=40 and D=2
T (cycle rate) = 2
Before then I had run it after auto-tuning, but results are better now. YMMV of course and it will depend to some extent on your setup.
However, having said all that, I would expect you to get some action from the unit "out of the box" so you may have a more fundamental issue.
Re: Programming an Auberin SYL-2352
To qualify; the PID did not activate the SSR whilst running the program. The SSR is functional, the wiring good so I suspect it is a failure on my past to input some of the basic parameters. Section 5.3.13 "Cool" of the PID instructions confused me as the instructions appear contradictory. I have set COOL=2 and although it displays in Celsius, I believe I have missed something somewhere.

That is correct for COOL, although I agree it is not the easiest thing to configure. Are you sure that you are on "auto"? Do both your target and current temperatures show correctly? Does the heat light come on on the unit?

The answers to all your questions is Yes. I intend to go and do another test run tonight so I will follow your instructions above. I do know that my temp reading is 1.2C out which I understand how to correct for. Thank you for your input so far, it is hugely appreciated.

Good luck with it. There is always the possibility that it is stuffed, of course. Drop an email to Auberins support - I did when I was having issues with mine and they are very helpful and responsive.

Re: Programming an Auberin SYL-2352
out of the box it should work, but the parameter list is long and tricky to fathom,one stray mis setting could chuck a spanner in the works.. Fwiw i use the sesto pids and need to refer to the auber manual as that at least attempts to explain the function behind each setting..
you should be able to detect the ssr drive current with a multimeter connected to the pids ssr terminals. if you can capture a quick vid of your pid connected up heat light illuminated and no dc drive current along with a troll through the parameter settings on the unit. I would send that to Auber support for advice.

Gentlemen, thank you for your input, I appear to now have a PID doing what it is told to do. Many thanks Matt, it would appear that your instructions were just what it needed to sort its life out. No brewing this weekend for obvious reasons, however I will have a test brew running next week. Once again, many thanks.
