Show me what you got ;)

Post by Hudson1984 » Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:31 pm

so, seeing as i'm one of the sheep at the moment, coming to homebrew and homebrewing in the wake of a few weeks stuck at home.

With this in mind, as "show me your setup" thread seems appropriate.

Show me a picture of your setup, and a little blurb of what you brew :)

Mainly British styles but recently made a half decent Kolsch, albeit having some US hops in it to give it a bit more character :D , should upset the purists. Just bottled a Wee Heavy for Xmas.

In the picture you can just make out the RIMS strapped to the right hand leg of the bench. Inbetween the two fermentors you can just make out a bottle of pure O2. The grey bottle to the left is CO2 for pressurised transfers. Fermentation temperature control is by chillers controlled by STC 1000's with towel radiator heaters providing warmth. It means I can ferment all year round in my cellar without needing ambient warmth.

@Orlando that is one mighty nice looking set up.

Can I ask what extractor fan you're using/what rate it is and how well it keeps out the steam.

I'm in the middle of planning a big herms upgrade (put on hold until electrician is allowed here to boost the juice).
But I really struggle with condensation in my garage at winter.
Been looking at various ideas such as steam condensing. At the moment I'm wondering about making some form of fume cupboard...

It's just a standard cooker hood I got from eBay. It doesn't keep up completely but I would say 80-90% and that's enough. I considered HERMS but have found the RIMS works really well. Are you going to use the HLT or a seperate pot?

Nearly two years ago I was able to convert the garage into a room suitable for brewing. Pictures below. The extractor fan is from Just Fans. A really helpful company. I explained what I wanted to achieve, gave them the room size and they suggested an appropriate fan, speed controller and outside louvres.

Getting pictures on here drives me mad. I uploaded three photos which I'd reduced in size and put on my desktop. They all seemed to go into the post OK. I didn't preview it and now only one shows.

Why is it so difficult in this forum to get pictures up?!!!

Wasn't always like that. As I said you don't need that to make great Beer, you can do that with much humbler kit, like my early stuff below. Even my "hop sock" was er scavenged, from the freshly laundered basket of course.
