Which Hydrometer?

Post by Hudson1984 » Fri May 15, 2020 9:13 am

Hi all,

so I bought a hydrometer....it's rubbish! or at least I can't work out how to read it.

Rather than me going through a lot of £5 spending sprees till I find one I like can someone recommend me one? Be nice to know how strong my Turbo cider is as I've woken up with a sore head after 2 bottles

Just to clarify, what do you mean by you can't read it, what reading did you get from it?

Did you take an original gravity reading before fermentation with a hydrometer what did you get for that?

I've got a Stevenson Read SC2748/00 The scale goes from 1000 to 1060. The means the gradations are further apart than most hydrometers that cover a wider range, making it easy to read.
I only use it for FG readings, I have a refractometer for OG so it doesn't matter if I make a strong beer with a starting OG of higher than 1060. Not that I ever have.
