I would advise a floor surface which can cope with getting wet
Definitely. My brewhouse (or garage as others call it) has been dry lined and has a vinyl floor from a single piece of vinyl. The amount of water and wort which gets dripped or spilled means vinyl is the only sensible option.

I have thought about this. I've been brewing in my garage for years so have a fairly good idea of the amount of spillage that I create. I am planning to install a large shower tray which drains to the exterior and will confine all my wet work to that. I think it will work.
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Yeah I saw that, good idea.

Tbh I don't create much wet, most of it is condensation dribbles during boil.

What are you guys doing 😱

That's the cladding, and the exterior, completed. I haven't done anything on the inside yet but have put a fridge, a temporary bar counter and some taps in because the weather is so nice at the moment that it is in demand already :D

Looks like it’s coming along well. My only criticism (constructive, of course) is the windows. Especially at the corner. You’ll have birds breaking their necks all day 🤨 Hopefully a blind on one or two windows reduces daily casualties. A silhouette of a hawk stuck on a window works very well 🙂

After a bit of an hiatus in the build over the summer, I have started making some progress again in the last month or so. Electrics and plumbing are now in and the brewery section is structurally complete, I just need to do the finishes in there. I haven't made any progress in the pub section because I want to prioritise the brewery to get it complete before winter sets in.

The white unit under the worktop is a small (5 litre) electric water heater for the sink. The shower tray is where the Grainfather will sit when brewing and the counterflow chiller will go on the worktop with the sparge water tank on a shelf above that (yet to be installed).

I initially installed just one 6" extractor fan and then did a test boil. It managed to remove 90% of the steam but not all of it so I added the second extractor fan just above the height of the boil kettle and that has done the job. The extractor fans were cheap (£20 on Amazon) so it was worth getting it right. The walls that are covered in plyboard are going to be tiled.

And if you're expecting to drop nutritious wort on vinyl, it's worth running it a couple of cm up the wall rather than leaving it flush to the bottom of the wall which allows wort to accumulate at the join and nasties take up residence in an awkward-to-clean spot.

Doesn't have to be as smart as this with all the metalwork, but you get the idea :

The brewery is complete now, I just need to put in some storage and shelves for all the brewing paraphenalia. I did my first brew in it yesterday (Bohemian Pilsner) and it was very cozy and comfortable and everything worked as planned so feeling quite smug about it.

Just a shame it's a grainfather 😁 (only kidding)

Good work. I really enjoy running a process where the planning and forethought put into the setup pays off. That will be a pleasure to work with.
