Has anyone any recommendations for a uk sourced corded 1/2 inch variable speed drill that would have enough tourqe at low revs to drive this mill… a google search brings up a plethora of drills… inc percussion… hammer etc… but really confusing to me
My current 3/8 Bosch corded drill isn’t up to the task and I would welcome any advice from somebody using a similar set up
Thanks

Re: Drill for MM3 pro
I would be inclined not to use a drill at all - they are not designed for such operation. A 1/3 hp electric motor and pulley is likely to be a better option, but it means deciding on the RPM needed ( I would reckon 180 rpm)and then working out the pulley sizing for the motor and mill. I know it is a pfaff but it will be a better operation in the long run. It is possible to buy such a motor and gearbox on eBay for about £170.

Thanks… I will check it out
Re: Drill for MM3 pro
Any half decent corded drill 800w or above should be fine. More useful, much safer and takes up less space than a motorised pulley system. I use one on my MM2.

Re: Drill for MM3 pro
I have a battery 18V DeWalt brushless drill and it works fine on my Bulldog mill; it has a pressure trigger on the drill so that you can adjust its action. A motorised mill is probably better in theory and lots of manufacturers are bringing out motors or fully motorised mills (Kegland/Grainfather/SS Brewtech) but given the few minutes it gets used on occasion I have never been tempted to replace my setup as it works fine and I get a good crush (I do mill slowly though using the pressure trigger).
