I while ago, possible 7 years I used to use 20/30l PET kegs as an extra way of storing of beer, these kegs were just basically a large PET bottle with a female coupler which excepted a standard style keg connector, very easy to reuse.
Recently a local bar said they had some Key Kegs so I thought I would take the opportunity to see if they could be reused, this is the newer style of PET bottles with an internal bladder and the PET is pressurised to squeeze the bladder meaning loads of different liquids can be stored in them / the liquid doesnt have to contain co2 to push it out.
Its double skin body and the main coupler housing looks as though it is sandwiched between the 2 layers of plastic, so thats impossible to unscrew from the keg. The foil bag is attached to a piece of plastic which is held by some plastic teeth, again almost impossible to remove.
The bag itself has a strange flexible stiffening piece running the length of the bag. A simple plastic plunger is depress when the coupler is engaged.
It would probably be possible to fill the keg (type a or g coupler) and try and clean the bag insitu but the amount of flaffing around etc means these kegs are really not reusable. So the idea is a bust.
Key Kegs
Re: Key Kegs
That stuff looks like the stuff they use for bladders in wine boxes. Equally a pita to clean and reuse.
Re: Key Kegs
I've still got 3 of those 30 litre poly kegs that are still in good working condition , pretty impressive for something meant to be used just once .

Re: Key Kegs
After some guidance from a fairly well known brewer, I have been able to get the inner bag out of the keg.
The idea is to use the keg not as a serving keg but as a FV (just need to check the PET bottle as such is sorta food safe.)
