iSpindel battery size and weight

Post by ozroger » Wed Oct 19, 2022 2:14 pm

My newly arrived pre-built iSpindels are floating at a slightly more vertical angle in fresh water than the design angle of 24 to 26 degrees. Mine are around 22 - 23 degrees. I weighed the supplied 2600 mAh 18650 battery today, and it's a bit over 45g. The spec printed on the board is 44g, so I guess this accounts for the more vertical floatation angle.

So I dug out all my other 18650 cells, which are all from the same manufacturer, and which are labelled as 4000 mAh. One of them weighs 44.19g, but the weights range from around 36g to 46g. Aha, I thought, problem solved - Simply replace the original with the one weighing just over 44g.

However what I didn't count on was the different heights of my stash of 18650s, All too tall to fit into the battery holder on the iSpindel board!

So much for them being a standard size. As a mate of mine said, the great thing about standards is that you have so many to choose from.

I have noticed this with 16340 / CR123A batteries too. A right PITA. I solved it by buying through amazon with "free returns "
