Saving water

Post by Glug » Sat Jun 03, 2006 2:04 pm

Living in the south where water is becomming a precious commodity my conscience has been getting the better of me lately thinking about all the water I use cleaning and rinsing equipment especially the bottles.

So I am now make an effort to catch as much of the rinse water as possible and put it into my water butt. Now I can water the flowers and clean the car knowing that I not wasting water it's recycled :) :) :)

Any other water saving ideas?

It's dificult to be serious about saving water when the water co waste more than we use! I'm on a meter and the only water I recycle is that from the cooling coil. BTW, family of four - we've found it's cheaper on a meter than not.

I catch all the water from my counterflow chiller and use it to clean up (since it is warm) and use what is left to water the plants. Once my water butt is delivered, it'll get dumped in there.

Yes, make beer with it

Yep, it's right grim; it's just gone dark, the air is heavy with the scent of honeysuckle and freshly mown grass, the bats are flying, the owls and foxes are starting to call and Blair and Brown are at a safe distance, where they belong. Tomorrow, I'll water the garden WITH A HOSEPIPE

After cleaning all my equipment, I use an idophor solution of 2 litres of water to 1tsp of idophor. This 2 litres is enough to sanitize everything. Basically the solution needs to come into contact with a surface for 1 minute and that is sufficient. On top of that it is a no rinse sanitizer (although I do tend to rinse).

Will have a look into Betadine. I currently have enough Iodophor to probably last me the next 18 months though :)

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Jun 9 2006, 01:55 PM) BTW its still effective when used at half the strength you are using it at.

When you say it is effective at half the strength are you talking about the iodophor or betadine or both?

Thanks,
