Refilling a corni

Post by Buzz » Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:59 am

Just thought I'd run this by you guys in case there's a good reason why I shouldn't be doing it this way.

I'm just about to refill one of my kegs. What I usually do when one becomes empty is give the keg a good blast using the shower head in the bath to get out any crap at the bottom. I then clean with soda crystals, pressurise and run the cleaning solution through the tube/line/tap. Rinse.

Then I sanitise with iodophor, pressurise and get it through the tube/line/tap and rinse in the same way. After it's dripped dry I fill with more beer.

Is this acceptable or, should I be disconnecting the posts and dip tubes every time :?: Clearly I'm not doing this at present (although I did when I first got the kegs when I gave them a thorough clean and overhaul).

I boil the quick disconnect posts and lid in citric acid every other fill*. Or rather, in a weak solution of citric acid. Followed by Iodine sanitization and draining. I do not boil the taps, but do completely disassemble them, clean by hand in soda solution, and immerse in iodine until i'm ready to assemble and mount on the keg.

* this was either DaaB or Dr Steve's idea.

Thanks guys, this will be the third batch going into this particular corni since the original clean and overhaul. I'm going to fill it tonight and will make a note to do the posts, poppets and lid next time.
