or at least i thought it was an infection, something i just read says it was dodgy ingredients...

that happened to my honey beer and my elderflower 'champagne' (which was foutainous to a point that the missus got upset at the state of the ceiling)

i think its down to carbonation, yeast keeps on going long after bottling (i fink!)

That's an exact rerun of how my bottling looked on Sunday! It's a carbonation thing, don't worry!

I get that when i add a spoon of sugar after i fill the bottle with ale.

I got that once with some slack malt, only noticed after the boil that the betadine went black, fermented it anyway and kegged most of it, the bottles never stopped foaming. I presumed the yeast in the bottle eventually ate the bigger carbs and produced excessive co2
