After reading an excellent post on another forum about using a king keg properly i have a couple of questions.
Firslty about the O ring in the lid. It says to make sure its fitted in the groove properly which i have done, thing is though i cant get it out now so will that effect steralising it? I dont want to pick it out with something incase i damage it.
Also it says when steralising the tap etc to remove the cap form the tap and take the tap apart and sanatize everything which makes sense, only think is how do i get the cap odd because ive tried just pulling it to no avail and again i dont really want to be damaging it by wrenching it out.
Any suggestions guy?
Cheers.

Do you have a link for that - sounds interesting?Robdog wrote:After reading an excellent post on another forum about using a king keg properly i have a couple of questions.
I generally don't take it out - just fill the lid with some sterilising solution while I'm doing the keg. I do take it out once in a blue moon though and clean and re-sterilise it, then re-lubricate it and put it back in. I reckon that the beer won't come into contact with it much and it's had a bit of a sterilise anyway.Robdog wrote:Firstly about the O ring in the lid. I pull the bit where the pipe connects to the tap out - the tap hole is quite wide and has a sort of plug that the pipe connects to. I didn't for a while but once while taking it apart to sterilise it, it came out on its own, so now I take this bit out each time.Robdog wrote:Also it says when sterilising the tap etc to remove the cap form the tap and take the tap apart and sanitise everything which makes sense, only think is how do i get the cap odd because i've tried just pulling it to no avail and again i don't really want to be damaging it by wrenching it out.

Good link, Robdog!
I don't know if posting links to other forums is frowned on here - can one of the admins let us know, because I think that it would be useful for other king keg users?
They take their tap apart more than I do and I may have to have a better clean of my tap next time around.
As for getting the o ring out, I used a small flat bladed screw driver and the smallest but least pointy vegetable knife that I have and a very gentle touch. It took me a while to lift it and I'm not sure how beneficial it was. Like you, I think that the risk of damage to the ring possibly outweighs the benefits. I usually clean it while it's still in place with the point of some twisted kitchen towel and then re-vaseline it a bit.
I'm not an authority by any stretch of the imagination, but this seems to work for me.

Re: King Keg O Ring and Tap Cap.
Hi I'm a new boy, hope I'm in the right place. I've been raking through many posts and my head is spinning.I have just bought a King Keg. I gather that cleaning it with metabisulphate (metabisulphite?) will damage the valve. I understand Bruclean is ok for both plastics and metals but is chlorine based. Chlorine reacts with hops/malt to give a TCP taste to the beer. Heeeeeeeeeeeelp. In short can anyone tell me what I should use to clean it?

You will be ok using bruclean provided that you give everything a thorough rinse with cold water after sterilising.
