Sterilisation + My Dishwasher

Post by CyanideMint » Mon Dec 08, 2008 3:30 pm

Last time I made a batch I soaked all of my bottles in water and bleach and then put them through the dishwasher with the sanitize option selected. The bottles came out extremely hot and got me to thinking. This time I'm going to clean my bottles ahead of time, but I'm only going to run them through the dishwasher. Then, as soon as they are done I'm going to put a little shrink wrap over the bottle openings to "seal them". My question, do you think this will be ok? I would love to skip the bleach and water step.

Thanks,

BTW, this will be my 2nd batch ever. My first batch came out great due in part to the great information on this site, thanks!

I wash the bottles after the contents have been drunk, then on bottling day, I stack them into the dishwasher with some VVP in the draw for good measure, wash on the eco cycle 50 degrees and then bottle straight from the dishwasher, never had a problem (yet!)

the dishwasher door does a marvelous job of collecting any spillage if you place your bottling bucket over the top.
