Cleaning cornelius keg

Post by Shoit » Sat May 15, 2010 7:06 pm

Hi there,

I have 2 kegs from Norm, just had a look inside and they appear very clean and in great condition. Do people generally strip them down completely, or is it ok just to rinse them and sterilise them? I want to use starsan, is the best way to make up a litre of starsan and flush through the out post?

Alternatively I could just fill the keg to the brim with my normal VWP and leave for 20 mins?

When I got mine, it was clean inside. I washed it out with a soda crytal solution, followed by a rinse with 5 litres of starsan. Some on here strip the posts down (I didn't) and it's probably a good idea. I will flush through the posts in future (need some extra disconnects.)

I'm not sure about using chlorine based sterilisers on stainless steel for an extended time (maybe just a quick rinse is safer?)

Right done the cleaning bit - lucky I have skinny arms (no need to employ a small child!). I have starsan so could just use that, I'm wondering how easy it is to flush the dip tubes if I use VWP? Is the only way to do it to pressurise the keg and fill it with clean water?

If you don't have skinny arms buy a toilet brush to clean the inside of Cornies.
