Baby bottle sterilizer

Post by Chunk1234 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:07 pm

Has anyone got any experience using readily available baby sterilizer to sterilize brewing kit and bottles?

Something like this: http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-pr ... 500ml.html

If it gets the job done, it works out a lot cheaper than specialised brewing stuff and is a lot eaiser to get hold of!

Yep, they work. Stay away from Milton liquid though, iirc it has cling agents. Which is a bit daft. The tablets are great, though.

The one I saw was about 80 pence and makes 20 litres when dilluted.

It also doesnt have the fragrance that bleach has because it's intended for food containers.

Thanks for the responses. I'm tempted to give this a try.

You're getting ripped off Chris..............I just got 2 litres for 18p :pink:

I suppose the key thing to remember with HB cleaning using bleach products (Like Milton) is you need immersion to guarantee disinfection. If your bottle of Milton makes up 20L of disinfectant, you probably can't adequately fill an FV with bleach at kill dilution. So, you've spent £2 on something you could have done with a 20p bottle of bleach.

This is the source of Chris' displeasure at the product, methinks?

I use domestos - it's so diluted, that I don't believe the clingy agent is in sufficient quantities to cling to anything, and i've never had any bother doing it either.

Hi all, 1st post, be kind....

So lets just say I was going to use the 20p per litre thin bleach. What levels of bleach to water would I need to ensure the death of all nasties?

Can bleach or VWP be used to sterilise cornies?

Thanks Chris, also when filling the cornies with beer (I have just bought my first pair) how much do you fill them? do you have to measure 19Lts? Sorry if this sounds a very simple question.

Look inside and you will see a long tube and a short tube. The short tube is the "gas in". Fill the keg to just below that.

although to clean them, I normally make up a gallon or so of cleaning solution and swish that around, not the full 19 litres.

We never sterilized bottles. If your baby is already Dependant on bottle feed completely then invest in the steam sterilizer available in most of the baby care shops .. Its very easy to use and ensures 100% sterilization.
Conventionally we boil it in water for 10 min except the nipple which can get spoilt if you boil it directly on the stove... But after cooling it leaves a residue so its better to go for the steam one...
