Infection Biological attack

Post by Belto » Tue Feb 27, 2007 1:46 pm

I have read others that take great precaution to the extent that bare hands although they may be clean, are not in contact with the brew.
Is it that critical to take those measures?
Ok I know all vessels must be strilised by what every the favorite method, and if residues are left they will impart off tastes, are we refering to airbourne contamination and these must be greatly reduced in the cooler weather
What are the effects of contamination?
e.g. is the brew completly ruined?
Is there an off taste or worse.

There is no bad beer only some beers are better than others

Learning from recent postings I have used Iodphor on my last cleaning / sterilization programme and found it to be much easier than in a past life when I was brewing from extract and bottling Using Milton and rinsing with a hosepipe. A wet and cold process depending on the weather in the garden

Poor sanitation would be the number 1 cause of bad tasting beer.
I've used bleach solutions, sodium met' & betadine all as recommended on the forum and had no problems.

As for hand sanitization Belto have you seen the alcohol gel that you can get in supermarkets now?
