I have my Irish Red ale fermenting at the minute. Have it covered with a towel and was removing towel to peek inside when the f*cking corner of the damn thing plopped into the beer. Contact time was prob less than a second and towel was clean and stored in a drawer...
Tell me it's going to be OK...

Me too actually. The ferment is completely finished so there isn't much sugar for beasties to feast on. Plus the alcohol should help...

Haha. In Ireland, if something falls on the ground and we're worried that it's dirty, we 'kiss it up to god' in the hope that he'll cleanse it for us. However, I shant be doing this now as A: the fermenter is too heavy to pick up, kiss then hold up to god and B: I don't believe in him anymore!

Yes, it'll be fine. I've done worse and it's always been OK.

Yep, think it's OK. Note to self: Stop using wide necked fermenter!

Personally, I use a bucket with a grommet on the lid, and slap on an airlock. I know a lot of people don't, but I do, and my beer comes out tasty.

I usually do too but had heat control hooked up to this one. I noticed lots of condensation on the lid and worried about the forever forming evaporation dribbling back into the beer. The towel was placed over the top to absorb it.
