Soda crystals for cleaning

I a pretty new brewer and have recently read that I should not use scented detergent for cleaning as the equipment may absorb the scent. Can I use soda crystals instead?

Absolutely, soda crystals are one of the better and cheaper homebrew cleaners you can get your hands on.

ensure you rince well as they can leave a white, powdery residue. It can also, if not rinces sufficientley rinced, cause head retention issues apparently!

Cheaper, yes. Easier to find, yes. Effective, yes. Useful, yes.
But 'better' when compared to other specialty cleaning products including those based on sodium percarbonate (or even using just sodium percarbonate), I'm not so sure about that.

Yeah it's all relative, I stand by my comment none the less. In the context of accessabilty and effectiveness and more importantly the original question.....
