Heh, I'll try not to.

Okay so my starsan arrived today and I bought a 2 litre bottle of this Ashbeck Water everyone goes on about from the local Tesco.

Only I get it home and crack it open to find it is carbonated!

Will the added minerals injected as part of the carbing process make this unusable for this purpose?

Here ar the specs in mg/litre

Calcium 10
Magnesium 2.5
Sodium 9
Potassium 2
Bicarbonate 25
Chloride 12
Sulphate 10
Nitrate 1

Ph at source 6.2

Grateful if someone who knew anything about these matters will let me know. Damned if I am buying some distiller water or some such. Might just go to a bigger Tesco and search for this still Ashbeck!

I assumed the carbonation process would frig with the levels of Sodium, Potassium, Sulphate and perhaps other things. I am blissfully unaware of the importance in this stuff in the efficacy of StarSan...

Just an update.

I used the flat carbonated water for my first batch then went straight out and got the regular ashbeck that seems quite popular and apparently no issues with either having cracked my testers.

On another note regarding the foam and the blast bottle Rinser: I have no issues at all using this with starsan. I fill the reservoir of the Rinser and then proceed to give each bottle three good squirts and set on the bottle tree to drain prior to use. There is a good measure of foam produced after a few rounds but my solution is to set aside some caps in a clean bowl and then use a large clean spoon to scoop out the foam and toss it onto the caps when it gets too much. This has the added benefit of sanitising the caps which is something I have never done with no adverse results but can't hurt right?

When most of the foam has returned into liquid I pour back into the five litre container of mixed starsan.

This stuff is pretty special, my annual 200 odd beer bottling session is now a dream with starsan, blast bottle Rinser, bottling tree and a bench capper. Happy days.

Only problem now is moving house with no boxes for the said 200 bottles.

Get yourself to Aldi. They sell Spitfire/Hobgobbling and the like in those boxs that the front is removed to allow the bottles to be removed. They are great as storage for your brews..and free..the only downside is they can't be stored in damp conditions for obvious reasons.
