Hi all,
I just made up a batch of Belgian beer. I cleaned my brewing bucket and sanitised it with "Milton" tablets (that you use to clean baby bottles).
Thing is, I swilled the Milton out, then added the wort, forgetting to rinse the bucket!!!
Anyone know if this will affect the brew?
Cheers,
Darrell.
Forgot to rinse...
Re: Forgot to rinse...
Nope! It will not affect your brew.dazp1970 wrote:Hi all,

According to the product website here ( http://www.milton-tm.com/sterilising_tablets.html )
"Do I need to rinse everything after using Milton?
No. The Milton solution leaves no unpleasant taste or odour, so there is no need to rinse after use - utensils can be used immediately."
As long as you actually tipped the stuff out, it should be fine, the very small amount left will be diluted into your full batch of beer and should not be noticeable (nor should it be harmful to you).

Re: Forgot to rinse...
Ah, this is interesting. I just did something similar. but with bottles. I think bottles is worse than bucket. But I'm more worried about the health implications. Does anyone think that the trace of chlorine (I drained the bottles very well) will a: kill the yeast; b: kill me? I know it will affect the flavour though.
Re: Forgot to rinse...
It will probably be fine but i the interests of research you both need to make sure you let us know if you survive...
Re: Forgot to rinse...
update: Could bear it no longer. Justed cracked open a bottle - merely in the interests of science you understand -. And although it is obviously still pretty green, I think it looks, smells and tastes pretty good. Could do with a bit more body, fizz and head retention. But I don't think (imho) any of those things are a consequence of sanitiser traces. Really looking forward to letting it sit for a couple more weeks now.
Re: Forgot to rinse...
I used milton as a no rinse sanitiser until we ran out, then I bought some starsan.
