Bleach Question.

Post by stevezx7r » Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:49 pm

Just giving my gear it's yearly super clean.

I've got all my fv's, barrels etc soaking in bleach but i've stopped short of soaking any of my copper stuff in it.

Is it ok to soak copper in bleach?

It's just that I can throw the lot in the bath, let it soak for 30 mins and rinse well.

It works out easier/quicker for me to soak everything in one batch in the bath - it saves water too.

I can also get on with other things while it's soaking.

Those and the IC. Thing is, I forgot about my usual cleaning routine where everything gets dumped in the bath straight after a brew and now it's got funk all over it, that's why it needs a thorough cleaning.

I did think it may not be a good idea to use it for extended periods/repeatedly so i'll pop in the bath for 10 mins and give it a good wash.

Cheers.

A teaspoon of citric acid in a litre of warm water gets my copper bits nice and coppery again. I only do it once in a while as it tends to get tarnished.

The citric acid solution was good for de-gunking the kettle elements too. Should do that after every boil really.

All you need to clean copper is an acid. I use vinegar and water Add about 5 tbs. to 5 gal water in a kettle then heat the water vinegar mixture on the stove put in the copper and leave it soak for 20 min it will come out shine and new looking added bonus is vinegar is easy to rinse off.Use plan old white vinegar.
