Another steralising question.

I realised after i had done my first brew i used alot of steralising powder. Ive just found some more so alls good.

My question is, say after ive steralised a 5 gallon FV can i also use the same water to steralise something else or do you need a fresh mix everytime?

Assuming it was only used to sanitise and hasn't cleaned a yeasty old stagnant barrel or something worse and also assuming it's fairly fresh/ not over 6 hours old?? - yeah go for it

Thansk Madbrewer i appreciate your adive.

When i have finished with my FV what is the best way to clean it. Was thinking just giving it a good blast with the shower head, then taking the tap out etc and giving it a good rinse in warm water then just re-steralising when i want to start my next brew.

Is this the correct way or do i need to sanatise it after my first brew has finished then again wheni want to start my next one, are brushes worth while to clean or will just water and a cloth do?

Well i find the 'marmite' & crud difficult to remove so from a fermenter so I go for just a splash of washing up liquid in say 2 gallons of warm water and slosh the slightly soapy water around with a cloth until clean then rinse. This will start an argument now as lots of people suggest that the detergent will inhibit head forming comounds. In reality as it's getting a darn good rinse before I use it next as part of my sanitation routine this isn't so much of an issue. Then do the taps just like you suggest.

My mashtun gets the same treatment, the spoons get the same treatment, the airlocks go on the dishwasher (lazy), the immersion and the boiler get a nice spray of water only from the shower head on the bath

'Soft' cloths only on plastic - remember to rinse well next time out

you don't want to store it with a yeasty odour (IMO) that means 'something' is left behind, think 'wild yeast' next time out.... yuck
