Is this Keg past it?

Post by Greendan » Mon Mar 23, 2015 8:55 pm

I can't seem to get this last bit off this keg. Please see the photo. It's been soaking in VWP all night.

Should I give up on the keg or will it be OK?

When I get stains like this on my brewing equipment I soak overnight in a small amount of plain bleach and top up with water. Always gets rid of the nasties

It doesn't look that bad to me. A little bit of staining shouldn't cause a problem imo (in fact if it did, I'd be knackered cos most of my fermenters and barrels have a little bit of discolouration).

Can you get in there with a brush or cloth?

Cheers Jim. I tried getting in there with a cloth on a stick (it's a cheap 2" neck) didn't shift it. I guess that's a good sign.

Have you tried oxi clean? Not sure if VWP is the same, but I had some staining which that removed in a barrel and a demijohn which a cloth and bleach couldn't.

i use a jetwash on mine, granted mines overkill , industrial jobby, but i dont see why b&q etc quality ones with a turbo lance attachment wont be sufficient.

Try some cheap oxyclean from Asda or Pundstretcher, the type with no perfume.

Mix it with the VWP and leave to soak. Works for me.

Or try the bleach as above.
