Using Star San safely.
Using Star San safely.
I've just bought my first bottle and read the stark safety warnings on the back.
Once diluted do I really need to take great care (wearing gloves/goggles perhaps) or treat it as a bare hands job which I've done with VWP?

As long as it's mixed properly you can handle it and even drink the stuff (although I've never been tempted lol!)
Cheers and gone,

safety glasses are not a bad idea when dealing with anything you dont want in the eye.. but with respect to skin contact you should be fine, i keep a finger bowl of starsan at hand to keep my digits and small bits sanitised while bottling.. but you may be wise to test a drop on the back of your hand for an abnormal reaction before dipping hands fully in
vwp is probably a lot nastier if splashed in the eye too??

the bottle cap for the single clear glass bottle i use with a crown cap to judge clarity progress, the little end of drain hose tap and reach to bottom of bottle tube extension and other small bits n bobs such as the bucket clip used if a siphon tube is used and not a drain valve.. all things i may need to grab n use during the cold side proceedings that i can keep use and keep sanitised by dropping in a small bowl of sanitiser (this liquid is then disposed of and not reused..)Fastline wrote:Small bits![]()

The dire warnings apply to the undiluted product.

...And if you have a keg with a few litres of the diluted stuff under 10psi for storage, then don't test the outpost poppet by depressing it with a screwdriverWonkydonkey wrote:Yeh it's not good to spill undiluted, which I did once...rpt wrote:The dire warnings apply to the undiluted product.

It would be much use as a no rinse sanitiser if you needed gloves and a mask
It had a diluted pH or around 2.5-3.0 so around the same as lemon juice which is no fun if you get it in your eye but a bit like soap, doesn't cause damage.
Undiluted though you really need to be careful. People have ruined their granite worktops
