Cleaning and sanitising aluminium

Post by Fuggled Mind » Fri Aug 30, 2019 9:57 am

Hi everyone

I always use plastic FVs for my brews but I'd like to try stainless steel (only for 30 lites).

What are the best products for cleaning and sanitising?

Any help and advice appreciated

Cheers

Jason

What is it, aluminium or SS? your title says one thing your post another :D

I wouldn't use aluminium as it's easy to scratch and reactive with acids etc.

SS is great, much easier to clean and harder to scratch than plastic, I would just use the standard PBW and star san combo that works so well.

Clean with oxi/pbw, them with bar keepers friend cream for extra shiny points.

Star Star rinse before use.

Always finish with an acid wash, it’ll passivate the steel and leave a thin protective layer on, plus it stops beerstone from building up.
Caustic is best providing everything is stainless (no brass fittings, rubber seals etc)
If you use pbw make sure it gets a good rinse!
