I wasn't sure if this should go in the Wine section or not, so Mods, please feel free to move it if so.
I'd rather ask a forum full of strangers and look silly than spend a lot of money and then look foolish in front of my GF, but does anyone ferment or have any opinions on fermenting wine (from grapes, from expensive kits and fruit/veg wines) in conical fermenters (specifically the Grainfather one)?

Re: Fermenting Wine in a Conical Fermenter
Modern commercial wine makers use stainless steel conical fermenters.
I cannot see any reason why it should not be fine for HB use.
Not that I make wine.

Fermenting: Cherry lambic
Conditioning: English IPA/Bretted English IPA, Munich Helles, straight lambic
Drinking: Munich Dunkel, Helles Bock, Orval clone, Impy stout, Porter 2, Hazelweiss 2024, historic London Porter
Planning: Kozel dark (ish),and more!

Thanks Cobnut.

I make a lot of wine.
You don't NEED a conical. If you were buying a fermentation vessel for wine don't buy a conical.
If you already have a conical it will be OK.
By a million miles a youngs wide mouth plastic fv is best.
TBH kits would be ok. Black grapes it would be a proper pain in the ass.. And probably not big enough.

If the real question is do I need a conical (at all) the answer is still no. A wide mouth makes great beer too.
