Never had a yeast do that 😉 new one on me.

There is nothing wrong with your original approach, but yeast can't read your policy.

Let's see now ... returning to the original post I started out: "With dried yeasts I tend to be a bit blazé - If it's in date, chuck it in, if it's out of date by just a few months, well just chuck it in too ...".
