Pitching A 2L Starter.

Post by LeeH » Wed Aug 19, 2020 3:26 pm

I have a 53L of NEIPA transferring into the FV now, looks and smells yummy.

This issue I have is that I had to make a 2L starter due to the yeast packs being 3-4 months old. Now, the last time I used Omega Tropical IPA in a 1L starter it didn’t really floc anyway so I didn’t pour much of it off.

I only made this starter 36hrs ago so don’t have time to chill it

So the long and short of it is, does this really have that much of an impact on the finished beer quality.

Pic of flask and wort.

I wouldn't worry about 2 litres of starter into 53 litres of wort. I've put 2 litres into less than 20 litres of wort. It had a minor effect on a very pale clean beer, but in beers with more to them (like a NEIPA) it wasn't noticeable, although I try and avoid that these days.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

Thanks Jocky, I pitched it last night and it’s going like a machine gun 12 hours later.
