FV Temperature Layering

Post by timtoos » Thu Apr 08, 2021 8:22 pm

Does anyone else seem to struggle with temperature layering in FV?

I have a SS Brewtech bucket, temperature controller probe in the thermowell controller and SP of 2C. I keep the FV temperature controlled using a glycol chiller and a Brewtech FTSS chiller coil - mounted in the side of the bucket not the lid. The tilt in the FV reads between the ranges of 0.8 - 4.7C.

I guess there would be some temperature difference between the top and bottom of the FV but it seems quite a large drift apart.

Anyone else see this and what do you do about it?

Cheers

Yes I get this on my larger fermenters.
3 - 4c different to top bottom.

No an issue. Heating from the bottom helps.
