Does water temperature have any effect on the ph reading?
I think I probably know the answer; that it doesn't but just wanting to make sure!
Cheers for any help fellow dudes!
Water temperature and ph strips
Re: Water temperature and ph strips
If you are reading it at room temperature as opposed to mash temperature, you can take about 0.3 off the room temp reading to get the mash temp value. Then again these strips are pretty inaccurate anyway.
Re: Water temperature and ph strips
Ok cheers Matt but to what extent and how so?
Thanks

Re: Water temperature and ph strips
The autodissociation of water is endothermic as it involves bond breaking.
H2O --> H+ + OH-
Hence when you increase the temperature, equilibrium will shift to the right and formed more H+ and OH-
Since pH=log[H+], pH will decrease since [H+] increases.
