Where to get my Water analysed?
Where to get my Water analysed?
I want to get my brewing water analysed. I have some basic information from the local water company but there are gaps. Where is the best place to get this done? A lot of people recommend Murphys but reading some of the threads on here, it would seem that there have been some errors in their reports from time to time.
Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
If you PM Wallybrew on here he does water analysis. Very happy with the one he did for me last month.

We used to get this done by Murphy's - what does wallybrew offer in addition to Murphy's?

Cheaper for a start, and Wallybrew being a member here, is easy to get hold of and a very friendly and helpful chap. There have also been documented issues with Murphy's reports (search for examples) and to my knowledge, no such issues with WB reports....sladeywadey wrote:We used to get this done by Murphy's - what does wallybrew offer in addition to Murphy's?
As the BBC say....other analysis services are available

Measurements of sodium, potassium, nitrates and phosphates, chlorine and conductivity (TDS), but perhaps most important of all, he checks his findings.sladeywadey wrote:We used to get this done by Murphy's - what does wallybrew offer in addition to Murphy's?

Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
Would be interesting to hear if someone sent two samples from the same tap and time to two different labs.

Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
I did the very same thing back in 2012 (both samples taken at the same time), I questioned both reports at the time & both said theirs was correct, so being relatively new to the water treatment scene I posted this questionMTW wrote:Would be interesting to hear if someone sent two samples from the same tap and time to two different labs.

Only one member on JBK sent me a PM letting me know that the figure of Calcium as Ca 64.80 was incorrect.
I only use Wallybrew now to test water samples, pity he wasn't testing them back in 2012.

Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
Thanks for the advice I have pm'd Wallybrew
I want to brew the Bohemian Pils from Greg Hughes book. I think my water is relatively soft but as the company I work for make ultra pure RO systems and I was visiting the service office I thought I would borrow 30l of water, they have moved all the equipment and not set it back up yet. and haven't got a drop of water
I'm going have to buy some

Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
Some interesting comments. Looks like I need to try the new service
Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
Has anyone ever looked into being able to do this themselves?
I had a look but couldn't get hold of test kits for everything. My concern was that while I am sure analysis is accurate at the time of testing with mixed and varying watersources / weather etc really we need to be checking each brew.

Re: Where to get my Water analysed?
& for the same amount of money you could get your water tested once a month for a year to build a water profile
useful if you water bounces around a lot, mine doesn't really change at all so am fairly confident the figures can be used brew to brew. Always check Alkalinity & you could check TDS also before each brew.
