I am bereft.

My Scoby was poorly for a few months and died.

I've cultured them from commercial bottles in the past but there doesn't seem to be any decent, unflavoured, live bottles available at the moment.

I'm convinced that the bottle that I had to buy from Holland & Barrett was just carbonated sugar water - it was very fizzy and sweet, no yeast in the bottom, and no baby on top. I would never have gone there but none of the proper shops have what I need.

Is there anybody on here that could help with a healthy scoby.

I know that you can buy them easily on line but it goes against the grain, and I've given plenty away in the past.

I promise to name any new one after the provider, an pet it and love it, take it for walks and feed it every day.
Well, I'll drain, throw it away and keep the new one anyway.

thanks anyway.

I'll try Freegle first, before I consider engaging with Mammon.
There used to be a principle in the Kombucha community that a Scoby should never be sold but given freely, as necessary.

Or I could try THE OTHER FORUM but I've never been active on there..

Thank you very much for the offer but there's no need.
I'll either find a proper bottle soon or, much as I hate the thought, buy a Scoby online.
In the grand scheme of things the stuff cost nowt to make so giving a tenner to some bloated capitalist is a pretty insignificant but worthwhile investment.

Thanks Mashbag,

I'm really looking forward to getting back into production.
I'll have to store a healthy one in case of further disaster.

When I first started I split into two, and was glad I did as one vinegared... But omg what a brilliant apple cider vinegar it produces.

Do you just do black tea Chas?

I noticed that you were using black tea in the photo.

I always do just green tea.
I much prefer the flavour.

I'm excited.
I miss the little fella greeting me every morning.
I'll call him Scoby.
