P H meter

I have just bought a P H meter. Prior to this I guessed my water treatment and as I live in darkest Leics the water here is classed as moderately hard ,I boiled for 20 mins +2 tsp gypsum and added 1 tsp citric acid to the mash.Don't think I was far out as mash eff was in low 90's. This time I also added 1/2 tsp mag sulphate and PH came out at 4.87[a bit low]. Mash eff came out at 84%. Next time I intend to halve the gypsum and halve the citric acid unless anyone has any better ideas. Has anyone else gone down a similar route and how did they get on ?
