Hi all...I am a very new starter and have just started my first brew. My kit is a fermenting bin, king keg, thermometer and a hydrometer. I am very restricted for space and cannot accomadate a boiler so that rules out hops and the like. I know that with a bit of effort I could brew on the hob but I do not want to alienate my wife as she is not really into brewing !!!.
I like beer that has a good head, fairly sweet and with a nice kick ("Old peculiar"). Bearing in mind the above restrictions what kit would the forum recomend and what additives (if any) could I use for my next brew. I intend purchasing another king keg barrel. Any recipes in basic form please.
All the best and take care... Frederick

Welcome to the forum, if the brewing bug bites believe me you'll make space for a boiler etc  .

I wouldn't rule out hops just yet, you could easily boil some fresh hops in a relatively small amount of water on your hob and then add this to your kit for that extra bit of zing. Or you could add hops to the fermenter itself (dry hopping) which in the right beer is fantastic.

You could try adding a small amount of other ingredients to your kit, like treacle, mollases, golden syrup (i think they use treacle in old peculiar but i could be wrong).

Thats a start but there is quite a few other things you could do like mini mashing and grain steeping but i'll let someone like DaaB who has experience of those things to comment on that.

Many thanks Delboy for the reply but now a further one... when and how do I add....... You could try adding a small amount of other ingredients to your kit, like treacle, mollases, golden syrup (i think they use treacle in old peculiar but i could be wrong).
You see Delboy I am a very basic learner... if there was a book that dealy only with basic brewing I would purchse it but they all seem to require boiling kits and the like.
Any advice will be most gratefully received.... Frederick
