My First Brew?
My First Brew?
Alrite all, i recently got myself a home brew kit, and it seems to be going fine, its a 'youngs' Mild kit.
I started it off nearly 2 weeks ago, the First staged went well and th SV droped to below 1060 within 7 days and i have got it bottled up and everything no problem, and have had it sat clearing for a week now. My question is, the instructions in the kit say i should "leave in a cool place for 14 days or untill beer has cleared", does this mean if it has cleared before the 14 days i can drink it ? i know i could just wait another week but i'm keen to give it ago lol
cheer

Re: My First Brew?
You've got to try it, haven't you! I think my first brew was all of 3 days in the bottle before I cracked one open.
A good tip I picked up from here is next time you brew, make up half a dozen little kids pop bottles of beer, so you can open one at regular intervals to give it a little try before it's strictly ready, without wasting a whole pint each time. The clear bottles will also give you a window on how your brew is clearing, but keep them away from light.

Re: My First Brew?
have had a fe ex-home brewers telling me it will give me dodgey guts, is there any truth in this
Re: My First Brew?
Nah. Mine has been OK on that front - so far. Just tastes a bit 'green' - you wouldn't want to drink loads of it, but I've always found it exciting, because it tastes better than you think it might and then you think "wow, how good is this going to be in a month's time?". Not that it lasts a month...
Re: My First Brew?
nah, that's bollocks, probably down to either people drinking far too much as it's so cheap or guzzling their kit beer too early before it's cleared and getting loads of yeast in their glass, that might give you the runs but yeast is good for your digestive system. If I sit in the house and sup say 6 pints I feel a hell of a lot better than had I supped 6 in the local pub.Phill_it_up wrote:have had a few ex-home brewers telling me it will give me dodgey guts, is there any truth in this
Also, what Luther said about the pop bottles, very good idea, and another plus is that you can give them a squeeze to see when it's built a bit of pressure up which will give you a bit carbonation and sparkle to your pint.
Re: My First Brew?
cheers lads, have drunk 5 bottles now lol, had already put some in clear plastic bottles, thats the ones i've drunk, think the barrrel might need another week or so.

Combined with chicken and spinach curry nearly ended my relationship, the stench and frequency was mind blowingKevP wrote:Chris-x1 wrote: and may have to fart with caution. It wont do you any harm though, it's a good source of vitamin b.![]()
