Cheap hops

Post by EportJake » Sat May 09, 2009 12:58 am

I stumbled across this trader on ebay. Not sure if he has been posted on here before but his prices seem very reasonable. I got 100g each of Styrian, Liberty and Glacier hops for under a tenner.

I ordered from him a couple of times. The guy is sound, very helpful and the prices are great. but I think there is an error on that page. I don't think the Glacier is 13.5%: the one he sent me is 5.4%.
I haven't used any of his hops yet, but I have a Willamette and Liberty pale ale planned for next week

The listing in the original link has now ended. Here's the current one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %26otn%3D4. I notice that he's now switched round the unit cost and postage price, so while the previous listing quoted £2.50 for the hops and £1.40 for postage, the current one is £1.40 for the hops and £2.50 postage (£0.30 for each additional item). Not that it makes any difference overall, unless you're collecting in person.

I've ordered one each of Williamette, Pilot and Glacier.

No, nor me, I ordered a mixture and had some free. I emailed him to ask for the sell by date or how long he thought they would keep for but didn't get any response.

Yes and good prices - have used some of the hops (styrians) and they are good. Just thought that it should be 'de rigor' to respond to a customer's communication?

Hi there guys

Am somewhat shocked that anyone would think that I didn't reply. A message was certainly sent through ebay to hoppy_brewer which stated that the sell by date of these hops is November 2010. Apologies if you did not get it as I sent it on behalf of Davie at Edina Home Brew in Edinburgh.

Apologies Gary, have just been going through the ebay account and you are right, much to my own shame I did not respond to your original question, the one mentioned was to someone else at a later date. As I say the hops are all Charles Faram Hops and they are marked with a sell by date of November 2010 and, given that they are vacuum packed, they wll certainly last for a period. I myself tend to stick them in the freezer once opened and that should give you something of a shelf life but it is rather a question that I am disinclined to answer with any great specifity.
