hi,
i've come up with a little random recipe for a brown ale and would like a little advice. brew length is 19 litres.
Fermentable Colour lb: oz Grams Ratio
Pale Malt 5 EBC 7 lbs. 7.9 oz 3400 grams 87.6%
Crystal Malt, Pale 60 EBC 0 lbs. 6.3 oz 180 grams 4.6%
Chocolate Malt 1050 EBC 0 lbs. 6.3 oz 180 grams 4.6%
Wheat Malt 3.5 EBC 0 lbs. 4.2 oz 120 grams 3.1%
Hop Variety Type Alpha Time lb: oz grams Ratio
Fuggle Whole 6 % 90 mins 0 lbs. 0.6 oz 18 grams 40%
Fuggle Whole 6 % 20 mins 0 lbs. 0.5 oz 14 grams 31.1%
Fuggle Whole 6 % 5 mins 0 lbs. 0.5 oz 13 grams 28.9%
is there anything i should change or do you think this looks ok?
ive got 500g of brown malt nocking about which i was thinking about throwing. any ideas how much i should chuck in?
cheers
Brown Ale
Re: Brown Ale
If you added the 500g of brown malt along with 200g choclate and 25og crystal malt it would make a nice brown porter
Re: Brown Ale
I'm not sure if you've calculated IBUs, i.e. the bittering you'll get from your hops because it's not printed with the recipe
Looks fine to me though

Re: Brown Ale
on the beer engine EBU is 23 which i gather is about right for a brown ale.
if you think it looks ok then i will probably leave it how it is as i dont really want a porter.
I will use the brown malt in something else perhaps.
thanks
