Coopers Dark Ale

Post by mr_baz » Wed Nov 18, 2009 5:02 pm

Hi,

Newbie here in need of help if possible please :)

Onto my second kit (first was an Admirals reserve, very nice) and opted for Coopers Dark Ale. Followed the kit instructions last night (used 1kg brewing sugar), temperatures were all ok (22 deg when I added the yeast) room temperature of 21 deg. Since adding the yeast last night not a huge amount has happened, no thick froth/crust like I got with my Admirals... kind of looks like its stalled, or am I being impatient? At time of writing its been in about 18 hours.... Should I be worrying/correcting anything?

Many thanks,
Baz

 Sat here, LMFAO! Eighteen hours? Perfect! Listen; If the Dark acts anything like their Stout? Ye should, any time now ~ real time, since ye posted ~ become 'Dimly aware of a certain unease in the air'.

By tomorrow? Armageddon!

No, no ..... Ye'll now have to get their Stout into that forlorn FV!

Anyway; Interesting and pleasing to hear their Dark does a Gillian too. Get my Big FV underway and I think I'll see clear to cracking open my own Dark and Premium Irish Stout! (Rubs hands in glee!)

Am currently drinking this one. Has been in the cool maturing for only 3 weeks but is already a firm favourite of both me and SWMBO.

Put my Coopers Dark Ale on to ferment tonight, as I picked up a second pressure barrel from Freecycle. Trying it with 1Kg dark DME then going to prime my keg with 80g of dark muscavado sugar. Looking forward to this big-style, then it'll be a toss up between Black Pearl or Ditch's stout after that.

 Looking like I did something horribly ~ and 'inexplicably' ~ wrong with my lot! It's been a good thirty hours in the FV and ..... Nothing! :(

Nope. Just been in there and had a look. Not much more activity than a mug of black tea. Maybe just a tad more than that?

And, for the record; Yes. This Is 'The' " Ditch " people here speak of the Stout after. I have a clue ..... :|

Might it be that Coopers Dark is just a bit less exuberant than their Stout? I'd like to think there's reason to believe so [-o< Else this lot's not going to be passing my lips by the pint.

This time round, anyway .....

Image It's on the rise!

About thirty six hours? That must be some sort of record (slow) for a Coopers.

Is this the 30 gallon batch, Ditch? If so I'll look out for any explosions in Ireland on the news!
