gromits
gromits
not sure where this really belongs but i'll post it here. recently discovered that asda do 5L bottles of water (my friend couldnt work out my seeming obsession with 5 litres of water until i told her why) for under a quid that could be used as a demijohn. before i buy one tho where am i likely to get gromits? a brew shop or would it have to be a supplier online? we just recently ordered brewing equipment online so wont be ordering online again for the foreseeable.....
Re: gromits
I used sainsbury's 5l water bottles with just a hiole drilled and taped applied over the hole. Just a pin prick in the tape seems to be enough to give the CO2 something to escape from whilst maintaining a CO2 barrier in the bottle. I have also just left the top on loose which seems to work equally as well.
If your going to do things on the cheap, do it properly on the cheap.

Re: gromits
electric suppliers, plumbing suppliers, proper garden centres are also a good place - used to seal water butt tubing. or from the kind gent above!

Re: gromits
I use the ones Trunky's linked to. They're a perfect fit for home brewing airlocks. I had to drill a hole in one of my fermenting buckets - 14mm springs to mind - and it works really well.
Re: gromits
Maplins stock grommits as do some home brew shops which are expensive = couple of quid for 10 pack from maplins
