help needed changing from a plastic tap to a ball valve

I wish to change from a plastic tap to a ball valve, i'm not very good with fittings. I have the following information on the current tap.

# Dimensions: 3 / 8 "outlet (Ø 9.5 mm), 1 / 2" impact-opening (Ø 12.6 mm)
# Outside thread: Ø 19.2 mm

what do I need to get a nice ball valve fitted #-o

I think when you weigh up petrol to b&q an buying the parts this looks pretty good value

I just went to a local Plumber merchants told them what I wanted to do and they sorted out everything I needed. Plus you get free advice.

Just a little bump for this thread; I am also looking to replace my plastic mashtun tap with a ball valve, and it's not going as well as I'd hoped. I can't think how to describe the problem (other than that I can't get the plastic one out properly) so will probably edit this later ;)
