Muntons Autumn Blush high og reading

Post by ymaohyd » Wed Apr 13, 2011 12:39 pm

Hi all,

I have decided to try a cider kit for the first time having successfully completed a number of other ale kits and have gone with the Muntons Autumn Blush kit.

I have followed the instructions to the letter and have just taken my og reading which was a staggering 1100. I have checked my hydrometer and it shows 1000 in water. The temperarture was between 24 and 26 degrees if this makes a difference and I had not pitched the yeast in.

Is this normal or is there anything I need to do to alter this? Should I be worried basically.

I may have answered my own question here. Having read similar topics I gave it a stir as I read that if the mix is bottom heavy it can give a false reading and got back a reading of 1062 which seems more in keeping with what I should expect.
