Hop Enhancer? New to me....

Post by dazza_mac » Wed Jul 13, 2011 2:42 pm

Hi y'all,

Just organised a silver can of bitter in theFV, which was supplied with a 'hop enhancer' sachet. Never come across one before but in true exprerimental stylee, bunged the whole lot in.

Looking for any comments to the enhancer as my mate who's been brewing longer than me hadn't seen it either. Searching the forum, can't find hellish much but maybe Muntons? It's a mix of maltodextrin and hop oil. Smelled lovely tho....

Yup, Tom Caxton kits come with hop enhancers. I have done the bitter kit and the real ale kit and used the whole sachet in both. A nice hoppy taste!

I've seen them before and used them.
Can't say I've ever thought they made a difference tbh. Get some real hops in a hop tea or even dry hop if the profile isn't hoppy or bitter enough.
(or take a step to the dark side)
Tea is for mugs...

Cheers for the input fellas.

As i mentioned, it's all an experiment but the joys of drinking beer at the end of it all definitely make it worthwhile!

Fego, you have to feed me some info on the 'Dark Side'...I'm a ruby ale/porter drinker/dark Belgian to my core but been on the easier side of kit making, so far. OVB is my first foray into the darker side of ale...

Just started a Tom Caxton Real ale kit and put in only half of the sachet. Not sure what difference it will make but at the moment I get a wonderful smell of hops and ale every time I walk through my kitchen. And yes it is my favourite room in the house :)

It's my spare room/office that had the smell....nice! Just about to bottle tonight and the 'hoppiness' i have to say has subsided a bit...obligatory QC taste test tonight will tell all... :=P

Just a wee update - i dont think the hop sachet made the blindest bit of difference. I feel that real hops are the only way to go. I'll have to ask the old fella next door...he seems to like it more than I do!!!!
