Polyclar 730
Polyclar 730
Hi,
I've got hold of some polyclar 730 to try and get rid of the chill haze plaguing my brews but it didn't come with usage instructions and I can't find any on Murphy & Sons Homebrew website. Does anyone know the correct dosing rates?
Cheers

Re: Polyclar 730
First of all your beer needs to be cold so the chill haze comes out.
Add a teaspoon of polyclar to about 150ml of boiled, cooled water then stir, shake or whisk like crazy. I used a stick blender for a couple of minutes. Polyclar is a plastic and doesn't mix well with water. Tip it into the beer and leave for a couple of days before racking.
I used polyclar for a lager recently and it made a huge difference to the clarity. The beer was crystal clear straight out of the fridge.

Hiya. Apologies for the lack of techincal info on the site. If you go on there now you should be able to find it under the Produc in Detail page. I think off the top of my head the recommended usage rate is between 20g and 100g per 100lts (HL) so just divide it by four. It'll be a very small amount.

Are you sure it's a chill haze? You have to get ales pretty cold to cause this.liammccay wrote:Hi,

I tend to use 15gms, that's what John Alexander recommends, although you can probably use less, for my beer and use a food processor to mix it for a few minutes (I can't be bothered stirring it by hand for ages). It has made a big difference to the clarity of my beers when they have sat in the fridge for a few hours.

Ah, yes, chill haze could well be a problem if you bottle your beers and then put them in the 'fridge before drinking.
Is that what you do, liammccay?

I serve from a corny in a fridge, not sure of the temperature but it its probably about 6C - I don't serve all my brews at this temp but a I like hoppy pale ales quite cool.
Re: Polyclar 730
I use 20g for my brews which are anything from 20-25L. Use on a scale of 1g to 10ml of water. I whisk mine up with a hand held blender & add during transfer from FV to Conditioner. Works very very well & used with other finnings will greatly improve clarity if you chill your beers like me!
