Norfolk Nog
Norfolk Nog
Hi All. Just about to start my next kit, a Woodfords Norfolk Nog. I've not brewed this before and was wondering what peoples experience of it is. Is it worth altering in any way, or is it best just to brew as is. I'll be bottling 10 pts for longer storage and sticking the rest in a keg. Cheers.
Re: Norfolk Nog
Not sure but seem to remember that the Nog kit only makes 32 pints. Careful not to over do it with the water.

I am pretty sure that this kit is a 40 pint (23L) kit, maybe oldtom's memories have been distorted by homebrewingoldtom wrote:Not sure but seem to remember that the Nog kit only makes 32 pints. Careful not to over do it with the water.![]()
Paul.

I brewed this to 21L, after reading lots of people on another long since dead forum saying that it was better for it, but I found that took 2-3 months to become enjoyable in the bottle.
As you are kegging most of it, I would suggest brewing it as per instructions, otherwise you may find that it will tie up your keg for too long.
Definately try and keep a couple of bottles back for 6 months+, because this kit is quite a slow burner IMO and keeps getting better with age

Re: Norfolk Nog
OK cheers. Checked and it is indeed a 40 pint kit. I usually leave it in the keg for a couple of months, so that should be OK, but i really think I should get a second keg at some stage. The bottles will be left to mature for a good few months, so it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Must have drempt that then. Sorry and all that
Better safe than sorry though.

I usually do a couple of these kits at the end of the summer to last me thorugh the winter. This is a really nice malty brew. Perfect for those autumn and winter evenings. I always bottle this one and leave it for 3 months before drinking.
Re: Norfolk Nog
Sounds just the job. I'll keg 30pts and bottle 10, as I'm too lazy to sterilise 40 bottles. Besides, I've only got about 10 glass bottles empty at the moment. I do have a load of Coopers pet bottles, but I'm not sure about leaving it in plastic for 3 months- usually use them for TC, which goes pretty quickly.

Ha, ha- no problem mate. As you say, better safe than sorry and I'd rather brew it short than put way too much water in it.oldtom wrote:Must have drempt that then. Sorry and all that![]()
