Woodfordes Wherry at Wilkinsons £15!

Post by alchy » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:09 pm

Probably a duplicate but I couldn't help mentioning the Wherry I picked up from my local Wilkinsons for just £15 thats cracking value. So I bought 3:)

Made one tonight and shall brew the other 2 in January March time. By the way what's the shelf life of these beers seeing they are in cans?

Regards Dave

Didn't you get the free 1kg of brewing sugar with each kit? ;)

I did :)

Bought one myself, it has a best before date of some time in 2014.

Online offer too but the free sugar is out of stock. Plus a budget keg for £20, with the plain cap. 4% off quidco.

just how good is the wherry?

i went directly from single can kits to extract and think what with all the rave reviews i may have missed a trick ?

is it "better" then say a short brewed coopers with added hops and malt ? (appallingly subjective question; i know!)

does it take an absolute age to condition ?

thanks

I'm drinking one now, one week old :)

It's not the best of the 2 can kits, but certainly worth £15

do you get 2X 1.5kg cans of malt extract and the pack of yeast with it? (as in £20+ worth of ingredients?)

i bet they are sold out again by the time i get money

Hmm anyone who bought it might want to look inside the boxes!
I bought three for delivery to store. The bigger shipping box was undamaged, the 3 kit boxes were pristine, but when I opened the first to use it both cans inside were dented badly- 1inch deep at worst, and not just in one place they were both dented at both ends. I opened the other two- 1 was fine but the other also had both cans bashed badly. A friend of mine bought 2 in store and one for delivery, he didn't keep them separate so we cant be sure which was which, but when he checked his 1 was also very badly dented. It does seem odd the outside looks fine and the cans are not dented in a way you'd imagine came from being dropped...

Anyway just in case any have pin prick sized holes its enough for at the least a sticky mess and botulism at worst! The kits we got were all dated well into 2014 so it might be worth a minute to check sooner rather than later.

ps at my Wilco today the deal had ended they were still cheap @ £18 though

If you're worried about little holes - try weighing the cans on kitchen scales, submerge them in water (the same temperature) overnight, then reweigh in the morning. If there's a difference, worry.

Good point but it is a bit of a mystery how the cans are like so battered and the box is ok. as if they went into the box.......

My friend took his back to Wilco, they swapped it, he asked what they would do with the battered one - discount it a further 25%, so he bought it back! serves him right if he gets botulism :-( but it may sort his wrinkles out

Mine (ordered online) are fine, in case anyone is worried they are all like that.
