Hi strike temp will vary according to the grain temp, ambient temp and ratio of water to grain, as well as the desired mash temp. As an example I usually set strike temp at about 74c in order to get 66 - 67c after doughing in. Best bet till you get used to your equipment is to have some cold and some hot water on standby to mix in in order to get your desired mash temp.

Get yourself over to the calculators page and use that to help you. Once you've got a few brews under your belt you'll have an idea what sort of temperatures you'll need with your set up.

Do you use any brewing software? That will usually give you a strike temp figure.

If not, what mash temperature are you aiming for? And do you know the volume of water you'll be mashing with, and the temperature of your grain.

The answer will probably be around 70C.

I will say again...

Go to the forum calculator: click me.

Enter the weight of grain, the initial temperature of the grain, mash liquor volume (normally 2.5L per kg of grain), your desired mash temp, press the button,,hey presto! strike temperature calculated. =D>
