Hi All,
I am fairly new to home brewing and was trying to find a good, quick method of making a starter with a liguid yeast vial. In the end i got roughly 380ml of wort down to 24 deg C and threw the yeast in. Will then throw it into the wort tonight. Anyone have any opions on this or perhaps a suggestion of an easy, quick technique?
Thanks
Col

Probably not enough wort for a pitchable liquid yeast unless it is seriously old. Which one is it and what is its date? The problem is that with a highly viable number of yeast cells there are just not enough resources in 380 ml of wort to make much impact. As long as you were fastidious with sanitation it won't do it any harm though so don't worry about it.
There are a number of posts on yeast starters so try searching on that term in the yeast section.

Is this going in to the wort you produced last night that you mention in your other thread regarding your boiler cutting out? If so then I would not leave it too long before you pitch that yeast unless you are very sure you have the wort stored in sanitary conditions. The longer you leave it the risk from infection increases as any nasties have freedom to establish themselves without competition from the yeast.
Depending on the strength of the beer and size of the batch you might be able to pitch the vial without a starter. Normally though I would always recommend making a starter of the right size in advance of brewday....
