Coopers English Bitter 2nd Attempt.

Hello Everyone,
My last try at this Kit was Vinegar! So lets try again! [-o<
20Lt Brew
1 can Coopers English Bitter
1Kg Medium Spraymalt
250gr Amber Malt & 250gr Crystal Malt steeped 24hrs in 3Lts water
48gr Amarillo Hops 5 min boil in 2Lts water (there was only 48gr in the bag and I didn`t want to open another bag)!
Yeast in @ 22deg
OG 1042
Smells Bloody Lovely Mun! :D

I hope that you have better luck this time, The English Bitter is a good kit, especially with a few extras added :beer: I can almost smell the Amarillo now :)

Hello Everyone,
Bottled this Brew Yesterday.
Fantastic taste and smell. As soon as the lid came off the FV the kitchen was filled with a Lovely Hoppy aroma!
Got down to FG 1010.
No Vinegar this time!!!!!! :D

Can you steep amber then? Thought it needed mashing?

Grains already crushed so I steeped them!
Was that the wrong thing to do?
I`m only a kit brewer so I am not into this Posh All Grain stuff!

Dunno mate. I know crystals ok to steep, and I've since read on an American forum you can steep other malts?


Edit: got interested in this,so dug a bit. Apparently its quite common to steep,so that should give a nice nutty tone. Good call!

Once a malt is kilned above a certain temperature the enzymes that mashing uses to convert the starches to sugar is denatured. The malt is no longer diastatic so doesn't need to be mashed, however it is usually much more convenient to do so which is why most people usually bung their crystal malts in the tun.

Colour, Taste, Smell, Yabba Dabba Do! :D
