Corny Keg - Gas Question
Corny Keg - Gas Question
Hi All,
Thinking of investing in a Corny keg but have a couple of questions.
1) Does the CO2 have to remain constantly connected or can I pressurise and then disconnect. I can check the pressure on a regular basis just not sure I can leave the gas connected. Depends on the size of the CO2 bottle.
2) I am thinking of a small (11l) keg to start with, so that it will fit in my existing beer fridge. They are not the usual looking AEB ones. I have seen some from a chap called normunmumpa on ebay, just wondering if anyone had any experience of this seller ? I have had some email conversations and he is very responsive and helpful.
Cheers
Tim

Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
Norman = Yep good seller.
Don't buy a gas bottle , rent one.
You can disconnect the gas bottle if required.

Thanks Barneey.
Also any comments on the non AEB kegs ? I think it is one of these http://mountainhomebrew.com/ProductImag ... t/1000.jpg style kegs.
I am just concerned about the availability of the parts.
Cheers

Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
No experience of that type of Keg, so would just ask Norman if they use the same bits / lid etc.
From my experience the only ones that are really different part wise is Chinese ones = larger lid + different posts from memory.

Just one further thing I would also send Rob (themaltmiller) an email to see if he is getting anymore AEB`s in.

Some of the AEB ones look like that too, and if its from Norm it is likely an AEB.

Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
For the Primary reg, you definitely want a two gauge one (to show bottle pressure and output pressure).
I use one of these;

They're expensive, but excellent quality. Sometimes they come up second hand but can still be pricey. Personally, I wouldn't go for one of those welding ones although many use them.

I've got a few regs for sale at the moment, a couple are primary and a bunch of secondaries.

PM me if you're interested, I can sell them a bit cheaper on here as there aren't any fees.

Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
The welding regs are fine if you have pressure relief on the kegs. If you don't its a bomb waiting to go off.

Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
Does anyone know where to buy/rent CO2 bottles from? I'm thinking about switching to a corny setup but don't know where to get the gas from. I tried the local BOC depot but they said they don't deal with the public, only trade customers.
Re: Corny Keg - Gas Question
Just google pub gas, or gas suppliers in your area. There is a sticky also on here somewhere.
