Loads out there - which one to go for though? Any thoughts/recommendations much appreciated. Cheers

If you don't mind paying for it, I'd vote for Beersmith 2.

i agree with banjokat, i think beersmith 2 is a great piece of software and well worth having in your arsenal.

the one i used prior to getting beermsith 2 was on the android platform called brewr, no cost and a good recipe builder.

There is also brewmate on the pc, which again is free and worth having.

It seems to be on permanent offer from http://brewadelaide.com/retail/. Works out pretty cheap.
Best wishes

I am using BrewMate and find it is a perfect accompaniment to my brewing.

Brewmate. Free, intuitive, and works.

I like Brewpal for iPhone & iPad. Works well, saves powering up the PC and I can design a brew while waiting for a bus!

i agree beersmith has ALL the bells n whistles, tho for a quick recipe check i find brewmate an easy to figure out tool without the need to revert to F1 and the help documentation.

i spend me brew/puter time on the forums and not loading data into a brewing app.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

I used beersmith but, it was just so much effort to put all the details in every brew. When you get the system volumes and temps right, im sure it works wonders.

Now I just use the ooold beer engine for recipe formulation. I can input the spec of the malt easy enough and just works for me!

Yep, look at the difference between when we joined and our post counts! :D Although to be fair I spend LOADS of time on here just reading rather than posting! But I spend a fair amount of time designing / tweaking recipes on BS.

I used to be perfectly happy with Beer Engine, but then I got a Mac and it wouldn't work

The Brewers Friend app and calculators always do everything I need and are free.

A vote for Beer Engine here, I've used it for years now and find it does everything I need. I use Debian Linux as my OS and found you can run Beer Engine using another piece of software called Wine.

There is also Qbrew which is cross platform and supports Windows, Mac and Linux, I have it installed here and it looks to do all that Beer Engine does
