That looks pretty good to me. I've not found anywhere cheaper for that style element.

Actually, depending on how many you want (I'm going to be after a couple for my boiler and one for my HLT) it may be marginally cheaper to get them from here: http://www.thebrewshop.com/contents/en-uk/d75.html

Anybody bought from peco before? Read on another forum that someone had a problem with rust on the backplate. Is there truth to this?

Balls. Well I think a proper backer element it is then. Although I might still try peco first. If they've improved quality control great, if not all for a refund and you have a temporary spare for free haha

I like the Backer elements because of their shape. We don't have hard water, but after a decent boil my current element ends up utterly filthy and needs a decent clean. Many of the cheaper elements I've seen don't really lend themselves to cleaning very easily because they're too tightly coiled.

I'm going to have to give this some thought too.

Where did you buy the official backer elements? Tried their website which links to the heating element company but they only stock "haden" 10 amp elements

I think my current one came with my old boiler. It was a long time ago...

You have to phone them up to order the old fashioned kettle elements of 2.75 kW. You can order the old style kettle power leads at the same time.

Ah I'm looking for the 2.4kw new style ones as I've already got the cables (using them on my Argos kettle elements already). Heating element company don't seem to stock the 2.4kw ones made by backer

When I needed a replacement element, I bought one of the Peco elements, but from another homebrew supplier.
The pins are very short; I didn’t feel happy boiling for over an hour with a cable that was barely held in place, I felt the slightest touch on the cable and it would come out. I even got the supplier to then send me his recommended cable. This was just as bad. I returned both. The element although unused, also had a small spot of rust.
I then decided to try to get a Backer element, But Backer closed down a few years ago.
I was traveling down the M1 and decided to drop in to the Heating element co and see what I could get.
I found that The Heating Element co is in the Old Backer factory, they didn’t have any 2.4k elements, but said they would be getting them soon, I got the feeling they were being shipped in, (Prob from China)
I then looked around for other options. I did find that the old style 2.750w kettle type elements were still available.

These are good and are cheaper now.
Remember to get the power connector, as its the round type. And you'll need a heat conditioned cable.

Let's just hope it's nothing too toxic :-k
